What might be going on at a ‘Bodymind’ level?

by Pauline Teague

The concept of ‘Bodymind’ is present in the theory of Pre-Natal Therapy (a precursor to the Technique), and has proved its importance over the years. Looking at more recent ideas from this area of study by Candace Pert (2007) we could speculate that a possible working hypotheses for Pre-Natal Therapy could be formulated as follows:

During the 1960’s, Pre-Natal Therapy proposed that the spine holds memories and patterns from prenatal time. In 2000, Dr E.R. Kandel, a neurologist, won a Nobel Prize for medicine, for showing that memory does reside in cell receptors in the spine and throughout the body. In 2007, Candace Pert proposed that the area near the spinal cord is heavily populated with these cell receptors.

Pert also says that memories held in cells carry an ‘emotional charge’ that may be activated when endorphins (feel- good hormones) are released into the body systems. Gaston Saint-Pierre, has said that ‘endorphins may be unintentionally released during a Metamorphic Technique session’.

However, since the Metamorphic Technique is primarily concerned with transformation, this speculative information is of no importance to practitioners when giving sessions, as they make no attempt to influence these cells or any other area of the body or mind. To do so would mean they are not working with detachment as required to do. On the other hand, having this information makes exploring the Technique more exciting. Why not try a session and see for yourself!
